In the quest for peace and the struggle for democracy, recent research might offer new insights – and we’d love to share this with you.
Welcome to the launch of a new EBA-report called “What Are They Fighting For? An Issue-based Approach to the Analysis and Resolution of Civil War” by Johan Brosché, Sebastian Raattamaa and Kate Lonergan. In the report, conflict issues in civil wars all over the globe have been mapped, and a central conclusion is that the likelihood of lasting peace increases when peace agreements address a higher share of conflict issues.
At this seminar, we will also introduce three new exciting dissertations in peace and conflict research from Uppsala University, by researchers Jenniina Kotajoki, Gudlaug Olafsdottir and Juan Diego Duque-Salazar.
The seminar will provide a deeper understanding of:
- Reasons behind conflicts – what are people really fighting for?
- Collaboration with non-state armed groups – challenges and opportunities.
- Violence in the context of elections – and the urgent need to end it.
By bringing these themes together, we’ll look at what they can teach us about practical paths toward lasting peace. The seminar is an opportunity to exchange ideas, connect across sectors, and think together about how fresh knowledge can help shape real-world change.
We hope you’ll join the conversation!
