In current debates in Sweden there are different assumptions about what effect development assistance might have on migration. But what do we in fact know about this, based on recent research?
A new publication from The Migration Studies Delegation (Delmi) and The Expert Group for Aid Studies (EBA) gives an overview of what is known – and not known – about the links between migration and economic development in developing countries.
Migration and development: The role for development aid is written by Robert E.B. Lucas, Professor at Boston University. He points to how migration can be considered in official development assistance (ODA), and also how aid can have a role in contributing to safe and orderly migration in accordance with the targets of the Global Compact for Migration (GCM) and the Global Compact on Refugees (GCR).
Professor Lucas will give a presentation of the report, followed by an expert panel discussion.
