In recent years there has been an increased emphasis on business involvement in development cooperation. This approach opens up for new possibilities but also for potential conflicts of interest between development objectives and business objectives.
In a new EBA-report, Sandra Atler, Enact Sustainable Strategies, previously independent consultant, and Rasmus K Larsen, Centre for Sustainable Development, explore whether institutions that are responsible for Swedish development cooperation have procedures in place to improve human rights practices by business involved. Hence, focus is on the role and responsibility of the state. The authors have used the UN Guiding Principles for Business and Human Rights as a departure for their analysis of Swedish policies, procedures and practice.
The presentation of the report will be a starting point for a discussion on the current state of “business and human rights” in Swedish aid and what Sweden could learn from other countries and actors.
