It is reasonable that Ukraine’s share of the development assistance budget should increase significantly given the circumstances, but it is important to understand the size of the investments that will be required for reconstruction – and keep in mind other needs in a world where despair and poverty continue to rise often unchecked. This is important not only from a humanitarian perspective, but also in light of the global image of Sweden as a humanitarian superpower. It is also important for maintaining support around the world for Ukraine and for the sanction regime against Russia.
