From 1 December 2025, Fredrik Sjöholm, professor and CEO of the Research Institute of Industrial Economics, will be a member of EBA.
‘I have had the opportunity to follow Fredrik’s work in various contexts and know that he is a talented academic who contributes valuable knowledge to the public debate. In EBA, he can contribute his deep insight into the role of business in a country’s development,’ says Torbjörn Becker, chair of EBA.
In his work, Fredrik Sjöholm examines aspects of globalisation, the economic effects of international trade and investment, and the increasingly significant role of China and the rest of East Asia in the global economy. He often focuses on multinational companies and the economic effects of foreign direct investment on home and host countries.
‘I believe that my knowledge as a professor of international economics has become even more important given the turbulent global economy with increased tensions and protectionism. As a researcher, I have been involved in economic analyses of developing countries and hope to contribute to the work of EBA with scientifically based knowledge of developing countries and development issues,’ says Fredrik Sjöholm.
EBA’s ten members decide on the direction of EBA’s work and which studies are to be carried out. A secretariat with nine employees implements the decisions.
EBA plays an extremely important role, given the large sums spent on aid and the enormous stakes in terms of the welfare of the world’s poor. I look forward to learning more about Swedish aid and working with talented and experienced colleagues to ensure that aid is effective and well targeted.
Fredrik Sjöholm has previously held academic positions at Lund University, the Stockholm School of Economics, Örebro University and the National University of Singapore. From 2007 to 2011, he was head of IFN’s research programme Globalisation and Business.
