Evidence for Aid: Report from a Conference

Swedish development aid must be evidence-based. Initiatives that work and deliver results should be promoted, whilst others should be phased out. This is a central part of the Government’s reform of development aid.

But how does one base an initiative on evidence – the best currently available knowledge of what works? This question was discussed at a conference in early spring 2026.

The report summarising the deliberations at the conference is now complete. The report describes how evidence should be generated, but – more importantly – how initiatives should be organised to make use of all the insights and knowledge about effective aid that are already available. These are lessons that are important for all actors within Swedish aid.
