Watch the webinar on synergies between development aid and trade promotion

You can now watch the recording of the webinar “Synergies in Action? – Links Between Climate-Related Aid and Export Finance”.

At a time when climate and development finance are being cut across the globe, pressure increases to use remaining funding most efficiently and to find new sources of finance. Due to these pressures, the Swedish government has placed greater emphasis on synergies between development aid and trade promotion.

The EBA report “Bridging aid and trade” authored by Perspectives Climate Research, examines how Sweden can strengthen the links between aid and export finance to increase climate impact of its public finance. Based on a review of four Swedish organisations (Sida, Swedfund, EKN and SEK) and a systematic comparison with four European countries (Denmark, France, Germany and the United Kingdom), the report’s authors – Max Schmidt, Luisa Weber, Ziqun Jia and Igor Shishlov – identify both opportunities and obstacles to more collaboration between development finance and export finance institutions.

During the webinar, the authors will present the report’s findings, and we will discuss the extent to which and how Swedish as well as French and Danish public finance institutions work to create synergies to increase climate benefits as well as the risks associated with such closer cooperation.

Participants:

Igor Shishlov, Managing Director for Climate Policy at Perspectives Climate Research (PCR), based in Freiburg, Germany. Igor is one of the authors of the report.
