This working paper examines the climate mitigation finance portfolio of the Swedish International Development Agency (Sida), focusing on projects undertaken between 2017 and 2022. The authors analyse the projects’ features, such as their geographical location, sector, intervention type, and funding sources, to understand the portfolio’s composition and identify trends.
The analysis reveals that Sida’s climate mitigation projects primarily focus on renewable energy and energy efficiency in least developed countries (LDCs) in Sub-Saharan Africa. The working paper also presents an ex-ante evaluation of the Sida’s climate mitigation finance portfolio. The analysis assesses the projects’ transformational potential, considering factors such as speed, scale, systemic change, relevance, and additionality, using a framework developed by the Climate Investment Funds.
