Leading international researchers recently concluded that major improvements in global health are within reach. By 2035 mortality and ill-health in low income countries may be brought down to levels currently prevailing in the healthiest mid income countries. Continued economic growth and sustained efforts to improve health services in poor countries can lead to this “grand convergence”, according to a report in the journal ”the Lancet”. Findings suggest that as poor countries become less dependent on bilateral health aid, Swedish support should rather finance global functions such as pandemic flue preparedness and tackling antibiotic resistance. During the seminar, EBA-report Sweden’s Development Assistance for Health – Policy Options to Support the Global Health 2035 Goals is launched.
