Today a report from Expert Group for Aid Studies (EBA) is released that evaluates Sida’s work to reduce corruption in partner countries. The report highlights both challenges and strengths in Sida’s current anti-corruption strategy and underlines the need for anti-corruption as an overarching perspective in all aid.
The evaluation is based on an extensive research overview, an analysis of Sida’s work and case studies in Kenya, Serbia and Georgia. The report finds that the fight against corruption has received increased attention in the government’s aid strategies and that Sida has an evidence-based approach. Moreover, the analyses of corruption at the country level and program officers’ knowledge of the context is high, which creates good preconditions for Sida to contribute to reduced corruption. Yet, a stronger focus and prioritization of anti-corruption is needed given other thematic priorities and demanding workloads.
