Seminar on democratic trajectories and political tension in East Africa

In Tanzania, this year’s elections led to violent clashes and international condemnation. In Ethiopia, there are both domestic tensions and increased tensions between Ethiopia and Eritrea. How can external actors remain constructive partners amid deep uncertainty and change?

In collaboration with the Nordic Africa Institute (NAI), the Expert Group for Aid Studies (EBA) is organising a seminar on current developments in East Africa. The discussion will highlight local actors and initiatives, regional trends and movements that could reshape East Africa’s political landscape.

Speakers:
Martin Schibbye, journalist, Blank Spot.
Liisa Laakso, senior researcher, Nordic Africa Institute.
Anna Bwana, executive director of Twaweza.
Moderator: Jesper Bjarnesen, senior researcher, Nordic Africa Institute.
