Assessing Contemporary Developments in East Africa

12 december, 13:30-15:00, Lilla studion (enter directly from street level) Kulturhuset Stadsteatern, Sergels Torg 3, Stockholm

Together with the Nordic Africa Institute (NAI), the Expert Group for Aid Analysis (EBA) is organising a seminar on current developments in East Africa.

This seminar explores democratic trajectories and political tension in East Africa. In Tanzania, this year’s elections resulted in violent clashes and caused international condemnation. In Ethiopia, there is both domestic tension as well as increased tension between Ethiopia and Eritrea. The discussion highlights local actors and initiatives, regional trends and movements that may reshape East Africa’s political landscape. The session invites a nuanced conversation on how external actors can remain constructive partners amid deep uncertainty and change.

  • Martin Schibbye, Journalist, Blank Spot
  • Liisa Laakso, Senior Researcher, Nordic Africa Institute
