EBA investigates how gender equality has been integrated into Swedish aid since 2018

Gender equality, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and LGBTQI rights are facing increased resistance internationally, and women’s rights are regressing in several countries. The focus on gender equality in international aid has declined in recent years, a trend that is also reflected in Sweden. Since 2018, the proportion of Sida projects addressing gender equality has gradually decreased, despite continued ambitions in this area.

EBA has now launched a study to follow up on how Sida’s work on gender mainstreaming has changed since 2018. The study will provide an understanding of how changes in aid policy governance have affected the integration of gender equality in practice.
